English indie-pop group The XX have just released their third album, titled ‘I See You’.
Their first release in more than four years sees the band taking a decidedly more African-infused dancehall path than their earlier stuff.
The band has said their new material has been informed by bandmate Jamie XX’s groundbreaking solo album ‘In Colour’, which was released in 2015.
It’s immediately evident in their new album’s title track, ‘Dangerous’, which features a uniquely grooving jungle beat and some sunny brass samples.
‘I See You’ is a definite departure from their earlier albums. The XX have called it, “more outward-looking, open and expansive”.
By taking a slightly more electronic approach, the trio is definitely keeping ahead of the curve and offering us a new chapter in their journey. And let’s be honest, after Jamie XX’s banger ‘Loud Places’, we’ve definitely been hungry for more of those infectious grooves.
