![]() REBUILD SAMOAN SCHOOL
16.12.09: We raised funds at the Parachute Music Roadshow, for those affected by the tsunami that devastated Samoa in September. Our relief efforts of $7,500 went to BANZAid to help rebuild a school in one of the worst hit areas. Satitoa (on the southeast corner of the Upolu island), was heavily struck by the tsunami. Its local school was completely destroyed, and many of the children there would have died if it had been hit during school hours. The community did not want to rebuild in the same place they experienced such terror and loss, so the entire village is moving up the hill – away from the immediate sea. This new school is an important part of the village’s move to a safer site. It will be a community facility and a civil defence centre for the future. Thanks again to all who attended the Parachute Music Roadshow and contributed. To read more about the project we’re supporting, click here. |
