Taylor Swift’s been trying to keep a low profile in recent times, after reaching peak media saturation with last year’s ‘1989 World Tour’; but the internet’s been freaking out with new theories of where she’s been hiding.
With her latest suitcase theory making the rounds, we dug up some of our favourite muso rumours of all time. Let’s be honest, any of these could be true; and we’d probably all try a bunch of these if we were that famous.
Michael Jackson slept in a hyperbaric sleep chamber
In 1986, The National Enquirer famously ran a photo of MJ sleeping in a large glass tube, saying that he slept every night in a chamber of pure oxygen to increase his lifespan. The article stated that doctors used the same types of hyperbaric chambers to heal severe wound victims, and that Jackson hoped that it would allow him to live to the ripe old age of 150.
The Enquirer’s Editorial Director later explained it was all a PR stunt, concocted alongside the King of Pop’s team, and it sure bought him plenty of attention. Brilliant.
Taylor Swift has been hiding in a suitcase
Splash News, a celebrity photo service used by media outlets around the world, recently shared a photo of bodyguards carrying a large suitcase from Taylor Swift’s New York apartment, into a vehicle with tinted windows. Their caption?:
“Taylor Swift being transported in a huge suitcase from her Tribeca apartment into her truck, in the trunk…
Almost a dozen of Taylor Swift security guards were present to move this package carefully as Taylor Swift
remains to be unseen for a long time.”
The image took the internet by storm, however a representative from Splash made a statement a few days later, saying, “I literally just put the phone down from someone on Taylor’s camp...We’re having to actually retract that.”
To be honest though, just because Swift’s camp wants the story retracted, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen...
Beyonce faked her pregnancy with first child Blue Ivy
Back in 2011, pop queen Beyonce was reportedly pregnant with her first child, when she sat down to be interviewed on Australian TV show ‘Sunday Night’. Her bump moved, and squashed oddly as she went to sit down, which caused half the world to speculate that she was wearing a fake bump and that the whole thing was a hoax. The due date she told various people also shifted a few times, making people suspicious.
For her second pregnancy, Queen Bee made a point of staging an elaborate maternity photoshoot, which seemed to shut down the rumours and also gave her the most liked Instagram photo of all time. But is she legit, or is she really just in the Illuminati?
Mariah Carey is amazing on a film set
According to InTouch Weekly, Mariah Carey was a bit difficult on the set of the 2015 Hallmark movie ‘A Christmas Melody’. Carey directed the film and acted in it, but requested that her dog have it’s own private trailer. She also need to take naps so frequently that the crew had to schedule their days around them. A source told InTouch, “Our day revolves around her nap schedule… She's constantly napping and doesn't like to be woken up. That would be understandable if she were performing, but she's been driven to set every day and not doing much [physical] activity.”
There was also a rumour that she asked crew to hold her drinks for her, while she drank out of a straw. Sounds like she was out there living the dream for all of us, tbh.
Prince put out a personal ad in several newspapers
An American newspaper claimed that Prince put a personal ad in newspapers around the world that said, “Eligible bachelor seeks the most beautiful girl in the world to spend the holidays with.” According to the newspaper, “a former associate said Prince was probably looking for a woman to inspire his creative side, with maybe a bit of romance on the side.” This apparently happened in 1993, at the height of the purple prince’s fame.
The iconic hitmaker also allegedly had garden gnomes in his bedroom, and did not allow his staff to look at him. He was said to have fired an employee once for looking at him directly. Amazing.
