Watch Tiny Ruins Cover Chelsea Jade

APRA boasted an all-female line up of finalists at this year’s Silver Scrolls; and they also had Tiny Ruins on stage to pay tribute to Chelsea Jade’s shortlisted song ‘Life Of The Party’.

Jade’s original tune is a sleek and modern electro-pop banger, so it was impressive to hear folk singer Tiny Ruins cover it with her veteran jazz-school-trained band.

The band added in some slick chord variations and new melodic runs, and (in a heartwarming moment) they even managed to pull off a couple of the dance moves from the original music video.

Tiny Ruins (aka Hollie Fullbrook) gave a strong vocal performance, and the version makes your focus on Chelsea Jade’s cleverly witty lyrics in a fresh new way.

At the end of the night, the Silver Scroll ended up going to Lorde; but with Chelsea Jade, Aldous Harding, Bic Runga and Nadia Reid all nominated, it was an historic year for our country’s songwriters.
