Space Above started when New Zealand musos Aaron Short (from The Naked And Famous), Sam McCarthy (from BoyBoy, and previously Kids of 88), and Maddie North (who performs as So Below) relocated to LA, began flatting together, and started creating music.
The result: dark and atmospheric indie-electronica that’s winning over the blogs. After releasing their first tune ‘This Is It’ two years ago, the trio has just put out their debut album ‘Spaces’ and it’s a bit of a winner.
You can hear a range of influences in their work; a bit of Nine Inch Nails, Sigur Ros and M83. A standout track is definitely ‘Stay’, with North’s soaring vocals and the brooding production that their bio calls ‘space tech’.
