Maala: ‘Crazy’

MAALA’s just dropped his latest tune ‘Crazy’ and it’s a cute look at the first rush of liking somebody, with a super playful vibe.

With visuals from his long-time collaborator Jordan Arts, it’s a simple slice of pop music that hits you the first time you hear it.

‘Crazy’ starts off pretty starkly with MAALA’s breathy vocals, as a Grimes-like arpeggio bass kicks in. A slick beat then comes in, and we’re then treated to MAALA’s lush falsetto in the pre-chorus. The chorus is also a total earworm.

The video is set (true to form) in an empty studio, as multiple versions of MAALA perform in a head-to-toe red ensemble. Shout out to the random guy making tiny cameos to say “crazy” in the choruses; he manages to bring in a call centre headset, VR goggles, and a VHS camera to the otherwise empty clip.

MAALA’s also just been announced as one of the acts for Auckland’s New Years Eve show Wondergarden; alongside Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Chelsea Jade, Boy Boy, and Leisure.
