Neo-soul singer Jessie Ware has released her latest single ‘Sam’, and it’s a simple and heartfelt tribute to her husband (Sam Burrows) and their first child.
Co-written with hitmaker Ed Sheeran, ‘Sam’ is a simple ballad sung over acoustic guitar, all about the moment Ware discovered she was becoming a Mum.
Featuring an all star cast of collaborators, it’s oozing in sentimentality. Francis from Francis & The Lights makes an appearance, as does Chance The Rapper’s trumpet player Nico Segal, and The Who’s bassist Pino Palladino.
‘Sam’ is the closing track on Ware’s latest album ‘Glasshouse’; which has been getting some mixed reviews so far.
Speaking to The Fader recently, Ware said that her new record is “quite personal”, saying, “I thought I was just writing songs, but it’s become this record that’s for my husband and my baby. It’s been a wild couple of years, and I feel like this album represents those ups and downs, the fear, the beauty, and the celebrations.”
