Brisbane singer-songwriter Hatchie has been making waves over the ditch, and she’s just released her latest single ‘Sure’ to rave reviews.
Her dreamy brand of shoegaze pop instantly lures you in; she sings nonchalantly while delivering concise pop melodies that are insanely catchy. Hatchie’s swirling guitars make you think of 90s rom coms, and all good nostalgic things. Somebody give this girl a movie sync already.
She told The FADER, “I wrote ‘Sure’ about people I know falling in and out of the same relationship issues as we grew out of our teens into early adulthood… When I initially wrote it, it was about a couple that decided to give it 'one more shot' over and over again because they couldn't bear to be apart. When I think about all the lyrics now I realise that it could be interpreted in a number of different ways. My songs always end up taking on new meanings when I look back on them."
‘Sure’ is off Hatchie’s upcoming ‘Sugar & Spice EP’, and it’s quickly been added to rotation on Triple J. She’ll also be playing a slew of shows around Australia, before heading to SXSW in Austin next March.
