Finally. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have been teasing a collaborative album for the past couple of months, and we finally get to hear the first single from it.
The duo’s new track ‘Over Everything’ is a sauntering guitar-driven tune all about their songwriting methods, and the way they both love to put a blues riff “over everything”.
They’ve released it with a cute black and white video, directed by Danny Cohen, which shows them both singing each other’s lines and looking happily awkward. Kurt is dressed all white with a white guitar, while Courtney is in all black; playfully laughing at their differences.
The video was shot in both Melbourne and Philadelphia, and cuts between an endless array of locations. And it’s true, these two could not be more perfectly musically suited.
Pitchfork writes, “Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett seem like natural creative partners, in theory. Both are troubadours prone to electric guitar freakouts, they’re each associated with the term “slacker” despite enviable productivity, and they find meaning in the mundane.”
Their collaborative album ‘LOTTA SEA LICE’ is due in October.
