Charli XCX has dropped her latest single ‘Boys’, and it’s one of the most contagious earworms we’ve heard in ages.
With minimal production, and a style that’s still echoing the cutesy-fun vibe of the PC Music movement, ‘Boys’ is a total pop triumph.
Apologising to her girl mates for missing their parties, she uses the song to explain why she’s been so distracted lately, singing “I was busy thinking ‘bout boys.”
XCX also directed the song’s video, which features about 100 amazing cameos of famous boys. The list includes: Flume, Diplo, Riz Ahmed, Jack Antonoff, Mark Ronson, Tinie Tempa, Joey Bada$$, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign, Charli Puth, Chromeo, Vampire Weekend, Jay Park, Vance Joy, Khalid, Joe Jonas, Sage The Gemini, Kaytranada, and (our favourite) Mac DeMarco.
Charli XCX said she wanted the video to have a feminist twist, telling BBC Radio1, “I started thinking about all the guys that I’ve worked with or met [throughout all] my years in the industry... I just want to flip the male gaze on its head and have guys do the sexy stuff… that girls usually do in videos.”
