Aldous Harding has released ‘Imagining My Man’, the second track off her forthcoming album.
With the chilling lyric, “It can be so hard to forgive”, Harding begins the song singly softly about life’s unmet expectations.
The way she later flicks over to rasping and then belting out her vocals makes it an incredibly arresting and unique performance.
Perfume Genius sings backing vocals in the choruses, and the simple plucked guitar and soft drums sound like they could sit nicely alongside work from Joan Baez and Joanna Newsom.
The video (directed by Charlotte Evans) gives us a simple look at Harding riding alone in the back seat of a car, driving through the streets of Auckland. You also get a brief cameo of her manager, Olivia Young.
Harding’s album ‘Party’ is due for release on May 19, via 4AD/Flying Nun. It’s been produced in the UK, by PJ Harvey’s producer John Parish, and it’s set to make some big international waves.
